President Does Nuclear Outreach in Saskatchewan

The Province of Saskatchewan is beginning to explore adding nuclear power to its energy mix. The province released its Delivering Energy Security Through Nuclear Power strategy on September 29, 2026.

To help ensure that all parties understand the benefits of nuclear, Society President Rebecca Caron met with members of the Saskatchewan NDP for a discussion on nuclear energy and the opportunities and considerations associated with Saskatchewan’s energy future. President Caron also had the opportunity to moderate a panel discussion focused on grid and growth planning.

For the Society it is important for us to bring our expertise to the broader conversations about energy policy, infrastructure, economic growth and the future of the electricity system at the ground floor of the province’s plans. We believe strongly in the benefit for the people of Saskatchewan and for our union if the province successfully pursues nuclear power, and we will continue to use our voice to advocate for sensible planning and policies.

Hybrid Work Works Campaign Update

The Society’s leadership continues the work of Hybrid Work Works Campaign. The campaign is fighting the government’s arbitrary return-to-office mandate at certain affected Locals.

We are grateful to the thousands of members who have engaged with the campaign, from wearing swag to letter writing and volunteering top tell their stories about how return-to-office is affecting their lives.

President Caron has been lobbying government members and strategically positioned MPPs in order to encourage the government to reverse course when it comes to hybrid work arrangements at our members’ workplaces. The President has so far met with the Ministers of Energy and Labour, and the MPP for Oshawa. More lobby meetings are scheduled with members of each party.

The Society also continues to collect signatures on our Hybrid Work Works petition. If you are a member at an affected Local, please make sure that you add your name. These petitions will be read into the record at the Legislature when the legislative session resumes.

Modernizing the Society’s Governance

The Society’s Leadership and Executive Board have been undertaking a substantial effort to modernize the union’s governing documents.

It is crucial that our governance remain current and consistent with the union’s activities and practices. This requires that the Society’s leadership, at regular intervals, undertake the work of updating our policies and procedures. As a member-driven union, the ability of members to seek office and to have clear, accessible and fair policies and procedures are of paramount importance to the organization.

As part of the Society’s ongoing governance and policy modernization work, a significant number of administrative policies and procedures have been comprehensively reviewed and updated, or developed where gaps have been identified. Once the Society’s Executive Board is satisfied with the updates, they will be presented to the Delegates Council for approval.
