Empowerment 2026 spotlights psychological safety across five regions

Empowerment 2026 was a first of its kind. The annual equity conference achieved new reach with broadcasts to four satellite locations, delivering fresh opportunities to gather regionally and participate in the day’s events. This year, union members came together in Ajax, Tiverton, Saskatoon, Burlington, and Toronto to build community and explore the theme of “psychological safety, wellbeing, and belonging” through the lenses of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.

The programming was delivered by the union’s member-driven equity committees and celebrated those leading the charge for positive change in our workplaces and communities.

Program highlights included a powerful performance by drumming group RAW Taiko, inspiring remarks by Indigenous cultural educator Luana Shirt, and a keynote address by Tanya Hickey, Society member and Section Manager of Health & Safety Strategies at Ontario Power Generation (OPG). Thank you to all the Society members who collaborated on this year’s conference and to all those who attended. The conference provided a valuable space to exchange ideas, foster connections, and gain inspiration to build cultures of inclusivity and belonging in our shared spaces.
