Local 222 supports summer lunch program for Saskatoon families

The Society of United Professionals Local 222, in partnership with Black Pepper Pizza, sponsored a pizza day through the Saskatoon and District Labour Council (SDLC)’s Summer Snack Program.

The SDLC Summer Snack Program provides lunch seven days a week in July and August for children who may otherwise go hungry. Coordinators and volunteers prepare, deliver and serve lunches at neighbourhood parks in areas with the greatest need.

Local 222 volunteers were paired up with SDLC coordinators and served lunch in seven different parks to hundreds of children and families on July 16. They donated the remaining pizza, vegetables, yogurt and fruit to EGADZ Youth Centre where at-risk youth clients welcome food donations.

These organizations rely on community donations throughout the year, and especially during summer school break, when children and youth can’t access school nutrition programs. By supporting local, grassroots organizations, Society Local 222 is helping ensure practical resources reach people in our community when they need them most.
